Yesterday was an amazing day. Truly amazing.

Working in a small Northwest Detroit precinct yesterday was a wonderful experience for me. I was welcomed with open arms...literally hugged by several of the workers as I left.

I cannot express to you how exciting it was to see so many new voters and first time voters. Everyone was upbeat and enthusiastic.

I was in a rather small precinct and the usual voter turnout had never reached more than 100 voters. Yesterday, by 6:30, we had 334 ballots cast. (More than half the registered voters from that precinct.) It was truly amazing and it felt good to be able to help. Yes, I helped several people vote yesterday and it felt good.

I went to bed so proud of my country and I was filled with so much hope. I've never felt so much a part of an election before and it feels awesome.

Congrats to everyone who helped, voted, hoped, and believed.

YES WE CAN AND YES WE DID!

Then, I woke up this morning and found out that prop 8 passed in CALIFORNIA, and that the hate proposals in Florida, Arizona and Arkansas passed too. It was a wake up call, sort of like being dowsed with cold water, because the fight isn't over. Just as we overcome one hurdle, it's time to step up the fight on another front. I know that this was a setback, but it's not over. We can't let it be. I'm making the decision to get more involved. Why? Because if I don't, if you don't, who will?

If President Elect Obama hadn't made the decision to get involved, we wouldn't be celebrating his historical and resounding victory. If this election taught us nothing else, it taught us that individuals can make a difference, especially when given the chance. That's what we need: more education, more organization, more awareness, and more volunteers.

I don't know where I'm going to start, but I am going to start. We all have something to offer and we come from all over. Think about how much difference we can make if we devoted a little energy to a movement that's time has come. I'm thinking maybe we need an online asylum for us to do this together, all over, but together. What do you guys think? We need ideas and I don't have experience getting involved but it's time. If I can do it, so can you...so who is interested?

I'm not stuck up. Awesome people just seem stuck up. Happy Bunnism of the day
This is the first time I've been motivated to be actively involved in a political campaign. I'm a little obsessed but please, no interventions, I'm having fun. The only down side is that it's sort of muffled my fandom muses. For instance, anyone have some bunnies for a fic for [info]bj_action? I've got nothing. LOL

Right now, I'm working on a board for the picnic. I'll take a picture when I get it done. Oh and I registered my first voter yesterday. squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

JUSTIN QUESTION: Can anyone think of an instance of Justin sucking on a straw?

Yes, this is exactly how my brain is working when I'm not in court. LOL

Anyway, my obsession made me wonder what everyone else is up to, so it's poll time.

Fear Mongering makes me sick and tired.

I've been sick of it for 8 years...

I've been disgusted by the manipulative techniques that our President has employed over the course of his time in office, this includes the Terror Alert Levels that have been used to incite fear in this country.

I've been embarrassed by it all.

I've questioned my belief and faith in this country because of it.

I've wanted it all to end.

I didn't think I could feel worse about it until this Primary.

Shame on you Hillary Clinton. Shame on you.

You've made me ashamed to have ever given you the benefit of the doubt.

You've made me ashamed to be a woman in this country. How's that for attacking you on your gender?

Politics
I'm annoyed. As most of you know, I live in Michigan. The Democratic Party here in Michigan decided to move our primary up before Super Tuesday in violation of the National Party Rules. As punishment, we were told - in no uncertain terms - that our votes wouldn't count. So, I didn't vote. What was the point? It wasn't supposed to count anyway.

However, now we have a close race and there's talk of seating those delegates. I'm upset for two reasons.

1. I didn't vote because I was TOLD it wouldn't count.

2. Even if I had voted, I didn't have the choice to pick from all the candidates actually running because Obama and Edwards followed the rules and removed their names from the ballot.

I suppose you could say that for #1, I rolled the dice and lost, but I'm not sure that #2 can be reconciled at all and it makes me mad.

If those delegates get seated, it's not the actual voices of the people being heard.

Does this qualify me as being disenfranchised? I'm aware that historically voters were disenfranchised based on race, sex, criminal record, etc however I think it counts. I guess I have to do some legal research on my own behalf.

In my opinion, the only fair and just thing to do would be to hold a new election. What do you think?
